As a fangirl I was so excited to see the Grammy Museum finally recognizing the talent that Mexico has to give to the world. Don’t get me wrong they have featured many latin artists before but for this specific man, it was about damn time! I was honored with the presence of HUMBE and Tomas at the Grammy Museum on Monday Feb 23rd. Thanks to the moderator himself for this invite I was able to turn this solo date into a night full of emotions and full of finding who I am as a fan. Quick definition as to what I mean by that, so none of you judge me for having too many emotions during this piece. Lately I have felt like the fangirl life isn't the same, it may be the prices for these entrances or it may be because I have no one to share this with. Whatever that may be, during this event I was reminded of how beautifully a live performance, done right, can be.
The event started with an interview conducted by Tomas Meir, a freelance journalist who just left his position with Rolling Stone. By the way Tomas has written some great pieces, please check them out if you want to read some more of his thoughts here! Tomas was such a good moderator for this event, not only did his questions have the audience captured and HUMBE in shock but he was able to do the entire interview in Spanish. As a fan who is sometimes a no sabo kid (someone who struggles to find the right words in Spanish) I know how hard it is to present in front of people in another language. As a latina it was so cool to hear from both of them during this interview! The way Humbe has a soft spoken tone and let me tell you this man is hotter irl, I can confirm he's taller than most of his fans for sure! Hold on let me tell you who this man is, and allow yourself to fall in love as well!
Allow me to introduce you to Humbe he is a 25 year old producer and singer from none other than Monterey Nuevo Leon! He is such a gem and a soft spoken man who is humble but also confident in who he is. Humbe has been doing music for a while now. After officially becoming an independent artist in 2021 he has captured so many hearts. His songs took a spin on tiktok when he released “Fantasmas” which went viral during the season of Dia De Los Muertos. With most of his songs Humbe knows how to embrace his culture and represents Mexico in so many ways. His recent album “Dueño del cielo”, which translates to owner of the sky, has a total of 22 songs that's a total of an hour and thirty min of your time. If you want to take a listen here are some of my favorites from the album. Some have made me cry like “Morfina” . It has a special message at the end of the song and it gets me thinking about my own parents all the time. Others on this album have made me wanna fall in love so badly such as “50mm”, which has this nostalgic sad tone to it but is all about capturing that perfect image of your person. And there's one specifically that has made me want to text “him” back and give him another chance. But that one I’ll leave you guessing until you listen to the album.
Humbe did such a great job breaking down his album “Dueño del Cielo”. He was asked if his album has any linear storyline and he mentioned that he doesn't necessarily see it like that. When you listen to the entire album back to back you won’t notice it but most songs have this perfect transition to each other. This makes the album flow in the best way possible. Humbe mentioned he makes his music for no one but himself, just be nice and don't call him an egotistical person. He aspires to collaborate with artists that have the same passion and sound as he does. Personally I would love to hear a collab between him and ROBI, they both have this sad tone to their lyrics and recently ROBI released a new song! Sorry, got side tracked, let's get back to Humbe. Who also mentioned he would have loved to collaborate with Selena (rest in peace queen). He spoke about his collaboration with Latin Mafia on the song “Patadas de Ahogado” and that in itself was a big moment for me, because it's actually a song I would love to have in my wedding one day, let me find a boyfriend then we can discuss the perfect wedding playlist. BC as a fan you bet your butt that I will curate the best playlist for the special day. Lets wrap up our time here, Humbe did such a great job bringing his own persona into this day, his performances were all done acoustically and boy did he give everyone chills. As a fangirl of his music and this type of genre I support your decision to attend his upcoming concerts in the US. If you are able to , buy that concert ticket and experience this heaven like performance. Maybe you'll see me there……to be determined though!
